    This session is an introduction to copyright law and moral rights in the UK as they apply to architects. Nick Walker (Partner in our Media, Brands and Technology department) and Clare Reddy (Partner in our Real Estate department and Head of Construction) will be covering the basic legal principles and how they are applied in practice. They will focus on issues specific to architects and the work they do, including the creation and protection of copyright works, infringement and remedies; moral rights and their significance; commonly used industry contracts; and some practical tips for protecting rights and negotiating use of material.

    There’s currently something of a time bomb ticking away under the issue of statutory holiday pay, with important cases pending before the courts on whether it must be calculated to include overtime and commission. While the financial implications for many businesses could turn out to be huge, the position is unlikely to be fully resolved for some time. In the meantime, our update will explain in clear terms the legal issues at stake in this and other key holiday risk areas and outline employers’ potential strategies for responding.

    Reform of the investor route

    Overseas investors and their families have been able to establish themselves in the UK since 1994. The essence of the investor route has survived fairly unchanged until now with the investment immigration route becoming even more popular over the last few years. In February 2014, the Migration Advisory Committee produced a report proposing reforms to the route and providing alternative ways for investment. The first significant changes are set to come into force this month.
