Times of recession see work-related stress levels rise significantly, leading to an increase in absenteeism and loss of productivity. Coupled with changing demographics and the financial imperative for many to work for longer, instances of workplace ill-health and disability are likely to rise in the future. Mishandling the situation can easily lead to things escalating, risking legal claims and costing both time and money. This session will draw out the legal and practical considerations in managing sickness absences, including the use of occupational health advisers. We’ll use case studies to look at more challenging areas where things tend to go wrong and will even come up with some best practice recommendations!
