The CBI estimates that 175 million working days are lost each year in Britain due to sickness and the HSE have reported that stress is responsible for 43% of those lost days. PwC have calculated that the related annual cost to business is £29 billion.

Therefore, there are obvious financial benefits for employers who can improve the health and wellbeing of their workforce. However, growing research also shows that investment by businesses in wellbeing will lead to increased productivity, greater employee engagement, reduced employee turnover and it will ultimately improve financial performance. As a result, employee wellbeing is an increasingly important and strategic issue for businesses. Join our panel of leading experts who will share their insights and experience on developing and implementing effective wellbeing strategies within the workplace.

The Speakers

Professor Ivan Robertson – Co-founder, Robertson Cooper - Robertson Cooper are one of the leading wellbeing consultancies in the UK. They have assisted numerous household name clients transform their cultures and improve wellbeing. Professor Robertson is a leading provider of psychological wellbeing and engagement solutions to organisations and an Emeritus Professor of Work & Organisational Psychology at The University of Manchester. He has worked on consulting assignments across all sectors of the economy and across the world.

Robertson Cooper have developed a system for managing wellbeing health and psychological wellbeing based on the single, powerful and accessible idea of ‘having a good day at work’. Professor Robertson will address this and discuss the six essentials of wellbeing which provide businesses with a clear starting point for their wellbeing strategy and enable them to identify, measure and develop the areas needing focus to achieve their wellbeing goals.

Beth Ryder – Wellbeing Manager, Marks and Spencer and Helen Wray, Health & Wellbeing Business Partner, Mars - As drivers of the wellbeing strategy in multinational organisations with large workforces, Beth and Helen will each describe how employee wellbeing has developed and evolved in their respective businesses and share insights about both formulating and implementing an effective and long-lasting wellbeing strategy. They will explain which initiatives have worked well in their own organisations and the lessons they have learned. By sharing their experiences, they will provide a variety of practical examples and ideas which can be successfully incorporated into the wellbeing strategies for other businesses.

Madeleine McGivern - Head of Programmes-Workplace Wellbeing, Mind – Madeleine is responsible for the successful delivery of Mind’s externally funded programmes of work with a wide range of employers, supporting them to ensure employees have good mental health and wellbeing at work, and contributing to Mind’s thought leadership in the workplace wellbeing space. She will provide an insight into the current picture on mental health in the workplace, dealing with the prevalence of the issue, workplace causes and triggers, issues with work/life balance and the culture of silence. She will then focus on how businesses can create a mentally healthy workplace by promoting wellbeing including assisting with resilience building, tackling workplace issues, and supporting employees who may be experiencing poor mental health.

John Binns – Founder, Fit4success – John is a former Deloitte Consulting Partner, who overcame a period of significant anxiety and depression to continue a successful career with the firm. He is now nationally and internationally recognised as a leading advisor to high performance organisations and individuals on mental health, wellbeing and personal resilience. John will relate his own person experiences of overcoming mental health issues the lessons organisations can take for their own corporate strategy and business performance.

Breakfast and registration for the conference will be from 8:30am and the first session will start at 9:00am. The session will end at 1:00pm and will be followed by a networking lunch and an opportunity to meet the speakers.
