...a little bit of law - Localism

19 March 2012

The Localism Act received royal assent on 15 November 2011 and this edition of ... a little bit of law summarises the most significant sections of the Act.

The Act covers a wide range of topics – both amending existing legislation and introducing entirely new laws. The Government claims that it will ‘disperse power’ and ‘help people and their locally elected representatives achieve their ambitions’.

A significant amount of the Act is yet to become effective and, even when it is, a lot of the detail of the Act is dependent on secondary legislation (regulations) which will only be made following further consultation by the communities secretary.
