Advertising for betting and gaming

20 January 2017

The existing regulation of advertising for gaming and betting is made up of a patchwork of legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

The principal areas of law covered by the term, ‘gambling’ are betting, gaming, lotteries and competitions. The latter two are dealt with in another Lewis Silkin InBrief.

The Gambling Act 2005 (the “2005 Act”) is intended to replace all the existing laws into one new statute. It was enacted on 7 April 2005 and it is to be fully implemented by
1 September 2007.
