The Equality Act 2010

The main provisions of the Equality Act 2010 came into force on 1 October 2010. It is the first attempt to recast diversity law as a coherent whole, bringing sex, race, religion and the other strands of discrimination together. As well as recasting the law, the Act develops the existing legislation with a number of measures designed to make it more effective.

This Inbrief focuses on the new measures in an employment context. The Act applies more widely, for example, in relation to provision of goods and services.
