Lewis Silkin and Grant Thornton launch DataCheckPoint data and cyber security audit service
13 December 2016
An integrated, risk based and fit for purpose compliance audit service
As global organisations face up to the challenge of increasing data breach risk and regulation, leading international law firm Lewis Silkin LLP and business and financial adviser Grant Thornton UK LLP, today announce the launch of a new data and cyber security audit service, DataCheckPoint. The partnership and offering is the first-of-its-kind and represents a competitive alternative to services currently in the market.
DataCheckPoint combines the sector-specific knowledge of Lewis Silkin and Grant Thornton in order to offer a service that will fully meet clients’ requirements and objectives. Based on an eight stage process, the audits incorporate a new scoping and gap analysis methodology which caters for innovative reporting and effective compliance implementation programmes.
This new service is designed to help clients prepare for challenges today and in the future, including in the wake of the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Security of Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS Directive). Both pieces of legislation come into force from May 2018.
Cyber security and data breaches rightly weigh heavy on the minds of executives; cyber crime is estimated to cost the global economy $445bn while the average total cost of a single data breach is estimated to be $4m. In the UK, where two-thirds of businesses have been affected by breaches or attacks, the government has launched a £1.9bn drive to improve security but, with reform from Europe on the horizon, businesses are facing the prospect of additional compliance as well as risk.
Dr Nathalie Moreno, partner at Lewis Silkin LLP, commented:
“With Europe taking data and cyber security incredibly seriously and establishing new rules, a joined-up approach to compliance and audit is now a necessity and we’re delighted to be launching DataCheckPoint as a solution for businesses. We have a long-standing relationship with Grant Thornton and count them as our trusted advisers in the realm of cyber security; it is a pleasure to be working with them to combine our expertise in this innovative new service for all organisations doing business in Europe”
Manu Sharma, head of cyber security at Grant Thornton UK LLP said:
“Robust data compliance is critical to protecting organisations’ reputations and DataCheckPoint provides a tailor-made, flexible solution that will both offer a bespoke systems evaluation and, critically, identify solutions to mitigate any risks.
“It is our aim to help businesses prepare for the GDPR and the wider, global, cyber and data security landscape in the most resource-effective and timely way possible, and we look forward to working with Lewis Silkin to provide this best-in-class service to clients.”
