I am a consultant with extensive experience in the field of employee ownership.
I have a particular interest in the governance of employee owned companies, and in the practical implementation of policy to promote and develop the EO sector.
Having advised on employee ownership for 30 years, I have extensive experience of all aspects of the work - technical, policy and employee engagement. I have worked closely with main board directors of small, medium and large companies, including plcs, and with employee representatives, to introduce employee ownership schemes. Having advised on employee ownership in many privatised industries, I am now interested in supporting the mutualisation of public sector services through employee ownership. My experience lies in assessing the overall position of a project or proposal, whether strategic or operational, advising on key actions and ensuring delivery. Throughout, I have been concerned with corporate financial matters, recruitment, the management of board business, strategy (both corporate and political) and succession. As a trustee for ten years of a large employee ownership trust, I had first hand experience of the governance of an employee owned company. I have spoken extensively in public, and addressed audiences from the boardroom to the shop floor. My political policy work has included taking a private members bill through Parliament which became the Employee Share Schemes Act 2002; establishing the first APPG on Employee Ownership; projects for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills; work with the Oxford Centre for Mutual and Employee Owned Business; and a review of employee ownership policy for the Labour Party, as part of The Hunt Review.
