As a business focused on delivering outstanding service to clients we recognise the importance of a practical and effective approach to our social and environmental responsibilities. We are committed to the principles of good corporate governance and social responsibility.

An important part of our values is that we wish to:

  • Act fairly in dealing with clients, employees, suppliers and the wider community, and to the highest standards of conduct;

  • Operate in a framework that provides sound and responsible employment, environmental, health and safety and social policies and practices;

  • Comply with all laws and regulations;

We believe that a responsible approach to developing relationships between the firm and the communities we serve is a vital part of delivering business success. We seek to provide our clients with a service hallmarked by integrity, quality and care. We regard suppliers as our partners and work with them to help us achieve our policy aspirations in the delivery of our products and services.

We have expertise in working with clients to develop their own CSR policies and practices and will be happy to discuss how we can help.

We have identified 4 key areas within the firm where we will regularly review our activities to develop new policies and approaches.

People and Employment

We are guided by our aim to be the employer of choice in our chosen areas of activity. We are committed to respecting the individual freedom and rights of all those with whom we work and come into contact. As a leading adviser on employment issues we regularly review our employment policies so they reflect changing legislation and best practice. We are committed to providing a safe working environment and to ensure that health and safety is priority.

Environmental Policy

We acknowledge our role as a responsible corporate citizen in minimising both the impact on the environment of our activities and those of our suppliers. Whenever practicable, we seek to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. We actively manage our energy usage and the consumption of resources, and seek ways to minimise waste and to promote recycling.

Lewis Silkin have, for the last year, adopted a zero landfill policy; our aim being to reuse and recycle all waste material. We are currently achieving 89/% of waste product recycling. We try to recycle or reuse all our waste products from lamps to waste cooking oil, cardboard to white paper. Our energy saving measures have included optimising time when the major plant is in operation and educating our staff to switch off unnecessary appliances. Our drive is towards being a carbon neutral organisation and we are working with the Carbon Trust to proactively seek ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

Standards of Business Conduct

We are committed to ensuring that our business is conducted in all respects according to rigourous ethical, professional and legal standards. Our Risk Management Committee plays an important role in reviewing our processes and developing procedures. We are happy to help clients deal with corporate governance issues.

Working in the Community

We strive to be a good corporate citizen, recognising our responsibility to work in partnership with the communities in which we operate. Through our work with clients we are actively engaged in creating opportunities and developing communities. We support fund raising by our staff and undertake pro-bono work.
