Nicholas's expertise

 Employment

I have long experience in obtaining substantial settlements, both before and after litigation, in respect of complex, high value bonus and breach of contract claims.

I advise regularly on sensitive discrimination cases, whistleblowing, and FSA regulatory matters. I cover both Employment Tribunal and High Court litigation. I also advise on team moves and issues around the enforcement of restrictive covenants. I also negotiate employment contracts and settlement agreements. Further information on the type of work that I do in this area can be found here. See also the “Partnership & LLP” section immediately below.

A major part of my work for employers is international in focus. Many of my corporate clients are headquartered abroad with UK operations. Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession recognises me for my work assisting UK businesses in respect of overseas assignments and outsourcing. I also advise global businesses on multi-jurisdictional matters – most recently managing an international team of lawyers in respect of a 15-jurisdiction compliance exercise for a NASDAQ listed company.

 Partnership & LLP

I advise senior individuals drawn from right across the financial sector, including private equity, hedge funds, and other alternative asset management businesses. That typically requires advice not only to employees, but also to individuals signing up to LLPs, on their rights and liabilities, both on entry to and exit from the business concerned. This can cover anything from managing fiduciary and other duties, to ensuring the preservation of co-investment and carry entitlements on departure.
