I provide employment tax support advising employers and employees (and often partnerships and partners) on the tax and social security implications of their remuneration or termination packages.

 Tax

I focus on employment tax primarily advising employers on their tax and social security obligations in relation to pay and benefits. My UK-focused work includes advising on salary sacrifice schemes and benefits in kind, employment status and employment termination. I also work with partners, advising on the tax consequences of leaving their partnership. Recent international projects include advising a multi-national company on dual contracts for senior executives; advising an EU company on the income tax and social security consequences of secondees working in the UK; and advising an offshore trust company on its international pension plans.

 Reward & Incentives

I am the joint head of Lewis Silkin’s specialist reward practice. My work includes drafting and implementing cash bonus schemes, approved and unapproved share plans including Enterprise Management Incentives, employee benefit trusts and advising financial services firms on Remuneration Code issues. Recent projects include: implementing a Share Incentive Plan for a UK subsidiary of a listed US parent; implementing a bonus deferral scheme using an employee benefit trust for a UK branch of an international bank; and advising a UK subsidiary of an international bank on the implications of the Remuneration Code on their guaranteed incentive and buy out bonuses.
