Mental wellbeing is rising to the top of law firms’ agendas with many worrying reports in the legal press on the mental health of staff and partners in law firms.

In Hong Kong, one in three professionals stated in a survey they suffered from poor mental health with many not feeling comfortable to discuss at work. Failure to address employee “wellness”, and particularly issues around mental health, can be costly.

With tight client deadlines, the increasing need to be available at all times and the pressure of chargeable hours targets, stress is all too common in law firms. Employers who promote positive mental health in the workplace are more likely to have a happier and more productive workforce.

Our roundtable is an opportunity for HR professionals and senior leaders in the Hong Kong legal sector to explore the issues affecting law firms and look at ways in which firms can remove the mental health stigma within the workplace and encourage a healthy, engaged workforce. We will share with you what Lewis Silkin is doing to promote positive mental wellbeing in our firm and we hope this will be a forum to share thoughts and ideas (and successes) and the start of an open conversation about what we need to do to provide a supporting environment for staff and partners.
