In the first of our 2010 Breakfast Briefings, Brinsley Dresden, Partner, Media, Brands and Technology, Chris Loweth, Board member of The Association for Television On-Demand (ATVOD) and Andrew Canter, Managing Director of the Branded Content Marketing Association (BCMA) will discuss two particular aspects of the implementation of the AVMS Directive in the UK, namely the new regime for Video on Demand and the potential liberalisation of product placement on television.

Chris Loweth is Head of Content Legal Advice at Five. His team provides legal and compliance advice on programming and other content to Five’s channels and websites. He is on the Board of the Association for Television on Demand and a member of the VOD Editorial Steering Group which is working on the UK’s implementation of the Audio Visual Media Services Directive. Prior to joining Five in 2002, Chris worked for independent production company Planet 24, and L!VE TV. Chris was called to the Bar in October 1996. He is also a visiting lecturer in media law at the London College of Communication.
Andrew Canter is the founder of Contentworx, a branded content consultancy specialising in developing content marketing strategies and solutions for advertisers, working with major clients, such as Visa, Camelot, Sara Lee and Reckitt Benckiser. Andrew is also Managing Director of the Branded Content Marketing Association (BCMA) the trade body for branded content and has been instrumental in developing a new Branded Content Evaluation System or BCES. The BCES is set to become the universally accepted methodology to measure the effectiveness of branded content campaigns. Andrew contributes to the advertising industry by lecturing at Bournemouth University, West Herts College and New Buckinghamshire University where he is also on the Advisory Board for the Master’s Degree course in Marketing. He has appeared on BBCnews24, CNBC and Bloomberg and has been quoted in the National and Trade Press on key industry issues.
