Lewis Silkin response to DCMS Product Placement Consultation

Current rules mean UK television broadcasters cannot include product placement in programmes which either they have made or have been made for them. As part of the EU Audiovisual Media Services (AVMS) Directive member states have to legally prohibit product placement but are allowed to grant exceptions for certain types of programmes.

The Government is now reconsidering this position and is considering permitting product placement on UK television.

As a result of feedback received from clients at a recent discussion forum about the Product Placement consultation Lewis Silkin made a submission to the DCMS.
