I read law at Oxford University then completed the LPC at BPP Law School. Not having taken any gap years, I fitted in some travelling and work experience (including a placement with the Metropolitan Police) during my summer holidays.
I spent eight months of my training contract in the Employment, Reward and Immigration Department before qualifying and spending an interesting few months on secondment with a train operating company, where I gained an insight into a trade unionised environment as well as advising on grievance and disciplinary issues. Back at Lewis Silkin, I provide ad hoc employment law advice to clients in various sectors as well as undertaking employment tribunal work.
Advising on disciplinary investigations into, and action following, persistent lateness, absenteeism and misconduct, including theft
Responding, on behalf of employers, to various employment tribunal claims such as unfair dismissal (including constructive unfair dismissal), sex and age discrimination, wrongful dismissal, and equal pay and case managing those claims through to settlement or a hearing
Advising employers on settlement options and negotiating settlement of tribunal claims through ACAS and by way of compromise agreements
Reviewing and amending grievance and disciplinary and family rights policies for employers and advising on the application of such policies Drafting employment contracts and consultancy agreements

I love playing badminton and, weather permitting, tennis. I enjoy travelling, seeing interesting places both at home and abroad. I am not always on the move though. I can occupy the sofa for hours with a good book, or to watch well-acted (or funny) films … when I am not indulging my love/hate relationship with DIY, that is.
