I graduated in Ancient History at Royal Holloway in 2006, before studying for the GDL and LPC at BPP Law School. I then had a gap year before starting at Lewis Silkin, which was largely taken up with travelling the world and seeing new places. Particular favourites were Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand and the National Parks of the Western USA.
My first seat was in the Media, Brands and Technology Department. On my first day, before I had even sat at my desk, I was off to RCJ to issue an application. That in hand, I spent the rest of my seat assisting in a wide variety of matters:
Running internet searches and requesting removal of URLs containing defamatory material;
Written an article for a top computing magazine about developments in the law regarding social networking sites (such as Facebook and My Space) and their use of users' personal data;
Working on briefs and newsflashes for in-firm and client know-how on recent developments in law on topics such as product placement on TV shows;
Drafting contracts for freelance and other services;
Advertising clearance work;
Advising clients on Freedom of Information Act and Data Protection Act issues; and
Assisting the running of a County Court claim (including drafting pleadings).
I have just started my second seat with the Social Housing team (in the Property, Housing and Construction Department). I have inherited a number of files from my predecessor including some lease extensions and a purchase. I have dug out some LPC textbooks to brush up on conveyancing, and am looking forward to seeing all stages of the process - although, I have already done my first completion.
My favourite hobby is dancing - I take ballet and tap classes weekly. However, I have a passion for all The Arts, and enjoy going to the theatre, stand up comedy, dance shows and live concerts. I also love skiing and every year my family and extended family descend on St Anton to sample the snow (and the apres ski).
