Over the years my main fields were landlord and tenant work and the granting and taking of security over property, but I have handled property transactions of all kinds and sizes.
My last 5 or so years of front-line work saw me acting for a number of organisations which set up and run Academies. My role was advising on long leases, usually from local authorities, and often with building agreements, and this gave me a greater insight into a number of public law issues. My principal work in the 5 or so years before that was acting for The Millennium Commission, taking security over a number of landmark projects up and down the country. Prior to that I was heavily engaged acting for registered social landlords on long term funding agreements while also preparing complete documentation packages for lenders to use in their residential mortgages.
A broad range, from institutional lenders to commercial organisations of all sizes, and on the Academy and RSL work, charitable organisations.
LLB, and spending 5 years of my working life (from 1987 to 1992) as a commercial mortgage broker.
I live in central London and walk everywhere – to the office, to Covent Garden, to the South Bank, to theatreland - so I indulge my main hobbies, walking, music and the theatre, on an almost daily basis and, when I'm not in London, I'm in Cumbria. The culture isn't so extensive, but the walking is without equal anywhere.
