I studied Social Anthropology at Edinburgh and during my degree undertook various work placements. I graduated in 2006 and worked for a year as a paralegal at H2O Law LLP in 2006, primarily in the Employment and Human Rights Litigation departments. I converted my degree to law in 2007.
My first seat was in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution department, my second seat was in the Media Brands and Technology Department. I am now sitting in the Property, Housing and Construction department working on social housing matters. Some examples of work I have been involved in to date include:
Assisting with the day to day running of a number of files:
Assisting with standard disclosure in defending a breach of contract claim:
Attending conferences with clients and counsel and attending court hearings;
Appearing before a Master to request the drawing up of an Order;
Negotiating and drafting a number of settlement agreements.
Media Brands and Technology:
Gathering evidence as material for drafting a response to an ASA complaint;
Drafting amended terms and conditions for a consumer rental agreement;
Filing an application and attending a hearing at the RCJ.
Property Housing and Construction:
Day to day responsibility for transactions including liaising with clients and other solicitors;
Drafting a Deed of Surrender and Re-grant; and
Researching and drafting client notes on issues such as easements, stopping up highways and enforcement of planning control.
I enjoy making the most of all that London has to offer: Columbia Road flower market, the Design Museum, the BFI, Alexandra Park and otherwise just mooching in my garden. I also try to escape to the country when I can, to see family in Wiltshire where I'm originally from.
