What attitude should professional services firms take to compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?

Our latest roundtable discussion for General Counsel, COLPs and Risk and Compliance Officers in the professional services sector.

The GDPR is due to come into effect in May 2018 which is likely to be before Britain leaves the EU. Whether the Regulation is officially in force here, however, the practical reality is that UK based firms will have to comply with the standards set by it.

As a result, Britain’s exit will not significantly reduce the compliance burden and will create complexities for firms headquartered here; the UK cannot be their main establishment for data processing going forward.

As the lead regulator must be in an EU Member State how will firms address this once the GDPR is in force? We will discuss what firms should be doing now to get ready for May 2018.
