What attitude should professional services firms take to compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?
Our latest roundtable discussion for General Counsel, COLPs and Risk and Compliance Officers in the professional services sector.
The GDPR is due to come into effect in May 2018 which is likely to be before Britain leaves the EU. Whether the Regulation is officially in force here, however, the practical reality is that UK based firms will have to comply with the standards set by it.
As a result, Britain’s exit will not significantly reduce the compliance burden and will create complexities for firms headquartered here; the UK cannot be their main establishment for data processing going forward.
As the lead regulator must be in an EU Member State how will firms address this once the GDPR is in force? We will discuss what firms should be doing now to get ready for May 2018.

The GDPR: A toolkit for advertisers and marketers - FULLY BOOKED25 April 2017
This session will cover some of the key impacts of the new General Data Protection Regulation for advertisers and marketers.
Workplace Data Privacy
Our employment team contains a specialist group of employment lawyers who have expertise in handling the full range of workplace data privacy questions, from advising on: cross border data flows; monitoring; background checks and vetting; DSARs, ICO complaints; and the introduction of new technologies in the workplace.
Employment is a central focus of our business, with over 170 lawyers in our team supporting our clients in managing their people.
Retail, Hospitality & Leisure
The retail, hospitality and leisure sectors live or die by consumer tastes, brand loyalty and spending power, all of which can fluctuate dramatically on a regular basis.
Media and Entertainment
In today’s connected, content-driven world, media & entertainment businesses face a continuous challenge to push the boundaries, create new opportunities, adapt swiftly to disruption and defend their rights.
When it comes to advising “the advisers”, it’s not just legal expertise that clients need – it’s also practical business support to help them operate more efficiently and effectively.
Advertising & Marketing
We have been advising clients in the advertising sector since the early 1970s. We have advised the founders of advertising agencies which became icons of the British advertising industry, to many of the world’s largest agency networks, as well as leading independent agencies.
Manufacturing & Engineering
For organisations in the manufacturing and engineering arena, even seemingly simple products and projects have vastly complex operations behind them.
