I am a Partner in the Employment team, based in our Manchester office. I advise on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law, but I have a particular focus on business restructures, change programmes and collective employment issues. I act for a number of unionised clients and advise on industrial relations issues such as trade union recognition, collective bargaining, access rights and actual and threatened industrial action.

I work with clients across a range of sectors including, retail, media, manufacturing, and transport. I use the experience gained during several client secondments to provide straight forward, pragmatic and commercially focused advice. I understand the demands and complexities of being 'client side' and the need for concise, solutions focused advice.

Experience

Employment

  • Advising a retail client on a large-scale change programme, to implement new ways of working, negotiate changes to terms and conditions and achieve operational efficiencies through better alignment of working hours
  • Supporting clients with high profile and / or senior executive terminations, providing strategic advice on terms, managing reputational considerations and advising on transitional arrangements and effective communications strategies

Employment M&A, outsourcing & TUPE

  • Advising a media client on the employment law considerations and obligations of insourcing and outsourcing projects, including those with TUPE and redundancy consultation requirements

Employment litigation

  • Supporting clients with complex Employment Tribunal litigation, particularly those involving disability discrimination complaints and those arising from business restructures

Industrial relations

  • Supporting a renewable energy client to meet an application for statutory recognition in the CAC, defend threats of industrial action over a pay dispute and avoid Tribunal claims for unlawful inducement.
  • Advising a food and beverage client to de-escalate and resolve a formal pay dispute with threatened industrial action and implement a new shift pattern and annualised hours.
