City law firm Lewis Silkin LLP has marked the tenth anniversary of the opening of its Oxford office by participating in significant fundraising efforts for a local charity which provides much-needed support for the homeless.

To mark this milestone, the firm hosted and participated in an ‘Alternative Triathlon’ on Friday, 4 April in Oxford.  A total of eight teams – including around 80 participants from across the firm and each of its three offices – donned fancy dress and completed a gruelling 5.7 km cycle through the lush landscape of Oxford, punting down The Cherwell, and taking part in an intensive pub quiz designed to test participants’ brains in the historic city of learning.

The event raised more than £3,300 for Oxford Homeless Pathways, which provides a range of services for homeless people in Oxfordshire.  These services include O’Hanlon House, a 56 bed hostel providing emergency accommodation for people who have been sleeping rough; Julian House, which provides supported accommodation for formerly homeless people; and Luther Street Medical Centre, a health practice specifically for homeless and vulnerably housed people.

The firm first established its Oxford office in April 2004 after the recruitment of leading employment lawyer Russell Brimelow. Since that time, the firm’s Oxford-based team has grown to four partners and a total staff of 25. The office represents a major centre of excellence for Lewis Silkin’s widely renowned Employment, Reward and Immigration team, serving the full range of legal needs for local, national and international clients alike.

Hannah Price, Oxford-based partner at Lewis Silkin, commented:

Lewis Silkin’s team is known for its generous and caring attitude towards others so we could think of no better way to celebrate the tenth anniversary of our Oxford office than by raising money for a charity whose good work helps so many people in this great city.

“Oxford is renowned for both its academic and sporting excellence and, while the efforts of our triathlon participants were at times more worthy of Bertie Wooster than Roger Bannister or the Oxford Blues, everyone who took part displayed extraordinary enthusiasm.”
