Lewis Silkin team demonstrate pedal power with 36-hour charity cycle

15 October 2013

An 18-strong team from City law firm Lewis Silkin LLP will be embarking on a gruelling 150-mile cycle from London to Amsterdam in just 36 hours, with the aim of raising £10,000 of much-needed funds for the charity, Helen and Douglas House.

An 18-strong team from City law firm Lewis Silkin LLP will be embarking on a gruelling 150-mile cycle from London to Amsterdam in just 36 hours, with the aim of raising £10,000 of much-needed funds for the charity, Helen and Douglas House.

The team, including managing partner Ian Jeffrey, will set off for Amsterdam from the firm’s Chancery Lane office on 18th October. In a further cruel twist, team members have committed to leg waxing – standard for professional cyclists, but painful nonetheless – before the ride, based on anyone donating and naming one of the riders in a message supporting their donation.

Based in Oxfordshire, Helen and Douglas House provides respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions, as well as support and friendship for the whole family. Helen House opened in 1982 as the world's first children's hospice and Douglas House opened in 2004 specifically for young adults aged 16-35.

The cycling team comprises Ian Jeffrey, Mark Lim, Russell Brimelow, Sadiq Tajbhai, Sarah O'Brien, Oliver Fairhurst, James Gill, Nigel Enticknap. Much needed water, food and (hopefully not too many) puncture repairs will be Sarah McWhinney during the journey.

Ian Jeffery, Lewis Silkin’s managing partner, said:

"It’s great to see a team of our people coming together in this way to raise funds for a very worthwhile and meaningful charity. However, I’m not sure which is worse, 36 hours on the road or 30 minutes of leg waxing!"
