This report by Bain & Company builds the business case for implementing flexible work arrangements, highlighting that if organisations get it right, flexible work arrangements can be used to boost productivity and advocacy, increase employee retention, provide the conditions for increased representation of women in senior leadership positions, and enable men and women to participate equally as caregivers and secure a better work-life balance. The report concludes by setting out four key actions to normalise and accelerate flexible work arrangements. These include: (1) Actively encourage and role model the uptake of flexible work arrangements and make them standard for every role, including the most senior roles. (2) Ensure flexible arrangements are working successfully for both genders. (3) Ensure the right culture and active support are in place, with proof of potential career progression, visible commitment from the CEO and leadership teams, and respect for boundaries. (4) Ensure the right policies, technology and agile working environment are in place and working well.
