This report by Citi GPS and the Oxford Martin School explains that while history has shown progress creates as well as destroys jobs, the process can be very difficult for large parts of society for a very long time. An additional problem during technological revolutions is it can be easier to see risks to current jobs than to predict jobs yet to be invented. The report helps to provide a clearer vision of what could be an uncertain employment future, and draws on insights from Citi experts on the job and skill trends ahead on  changes, risks, and opportunities. The report proposes the following tools to combat labour market disruption caused by automation: (1) Revamp education; (2) Reinvigorate business dynamism; (3) Remote barriers to prosperity; (4) Promote civic participation; (5) Improve training and employment support; (6) Rethink work; (7) Increase importance of safety nets and argue for more ex-post redistribution.
