This report from researchers at the University of Birmingham and the University of York explores four key areas of change since the pandemic: managers' changing attitudes towards flexible working; managers' future intentions in terms of support for flexible working; changes in spatial flexibility and use of office space; and changes around consultation and surveillance in the workplace. The research reveals that most staff are using flexible working policies informally, particularly for working from home and flexitime, but also for part-time working, compressed hours and job shares. Moreover, most managers believe that job advertisements that include information about the availability of flexible working arrangements are more attractive to potential candidates.
