This paper from the Institute of Labor Economics examines the post-Covid-19 phenomenon of 'quiet quitting' and how it differs across generations. Analysing data from the UK Quarterly Labour Force Survey between 2007-2022, it finds that overall, the UK workforce reduced hours by approximately 28 hours per year post-pandemic and that quiet quitting was most pronounced amongst Gen Zs and Millennials. Hours also declined for GenXers, while baby boomers showed evidence of a possible rebound to pre-pandemic levels.
