This paper explores how AI-enabled technologies are shaping pay in the UK. Based on nationally representative employer data and a survey of 6,000 workers, it finds that lower skilled workers see the biggest pay gains from AI—particularly when they interact with AI in their roles. The research also shows that involving employees in pay decisions helps spread AI-related benefits more fairly, boosting pay for lower qualified workers. Overall, the impact on pay is positive, but the authors call for stronger workplace voice mechanisms to ensure a more equitable distribution of gains as AI use grows.
