I am a Consultant Partner in Lewis Silkin’s Employment, Immigration and Reward division based in Belfast.
For many years I jointly headed the litigation department of a major Belfast Commercial Practice, and for the last 20 years I have concentrated on employment and discrimination matters. I advise clients on disciplinary and grievance matters. I advise on discrimination law, including the statutory monitoring requirements in N.I. which are probably the most stringent in Europe as well as claims, for example in relation to religious belief/political opinion. I advise on disability or other discrimination concerns, making reasonable adjustments and dealing with mental health issues.
I advise a wide range of public and private sectors on TUPE/Service Provision Change often involving public procurement processes, whether for the public authority, the transferor/transferee or the employees.
I advise both employers and individuals on high level internal disputes, and on restrictive covenants, sometimes involving injunctions.
I have long experience in the education sector at all levels, acting both for and against Schools and Universities. I work in the retail sector, including at different times acting for four major supermarket chains.
I am ranked as a leader in the field by both Legal 500 and Chambers. I am currently deputy Chairman of the Employment Lawyers Group Northern Ireland.
I lecture/train on a variety of subjects, including particularly TUPE and discrimination law. I am author of articles including contributions to PLC on Northern Ireland employment law and tribunals.
