I am a trade mark attorney at Lewis Silkin. I have an unusual blend of experience in that I originally began my career in IP as an examiner at the UK Patent Office (now the UK IPO), before moving into private practice.
Once qualified I moved for a spell of 8 years in-house at Gillette having responsibility for the Gillette, Parker, Papermate, Waterman, Braun, Oral-B and Duracell brands in nearly 160 countries. So I have seen IP from the regulatory side as well as the client and agency side.
I am active in the Advertising sectors principally for Omnicom & Publicis. The Automotive sector where we represent Aston Martin on a worldwide basis. In Construction & Real Estate sectors I have been involved in projects such as One Blackfriars, McCarthy & Stone and Network Rail. In the Food & Drink sector I act for numerous clients including the Britvic group of companies on a worldwide basis. For the Retail Sector I have long established global clients such as clients Monsoon and Accessorize. I have been rated as an IPSTAR by Managing Intellectual Property for a number of years and in the WTR 1000 of 2016 I am ranked along with just 13 other attorneys from the UK in the ‘Gold’ tier for Individuals: prosecution and strategy.
I act for a wide range of clients from individuals to multi-nationals assisting them in the searching, selection, filing, registration, maintenance and then enforcement of trade mark rights on a global basis. I help my clients choose the level of IP protection that best suits their project and their immediate needs, often costs can be spread over two financial years using International Convention priority filings. I try to simplify the multiplicity of choices offered by The European Union Trade Mark or International Registration systems.I help my clients set up watching services to protect the investment that they have made in their branding because obtaining the certificate of registration is never the end of the story...
Brands & IP
I help to manage a number of global IP portfolios for my clients, seeking to maximise the effective scope of their protection whilst helping my clients to stay within closely defined budgets.
