The challenge

The client is a business with a strong and distinct brand and ethos, which has been successfully embedded across the both the customer and employee experience. However, it was felt that their existing employment contract was too traditional to be properly aligned with the company’s people-focused approach. They asked if we could create a more exciting, positive and welcoming document, which better reflected their brand and was easier for employees to follow.

Our approach

We set up a project involving our client’s people and in-house legal teams, and our legal and design teams. Together, we updated and simplified the content of the contracts using plain language, restructured them to change the layout and flow, and introduced artwork and graphic elements.

The outcome

The result is a highly visual employment contract which more clearly communicates expectations, and much better reflects the company’s voice, values and brand. The contracts are now focused around what is most important for the employee – starting, for example, with a summary of key elements such as start date and hours of work. The rest of the contract is then organised to match an employee’s journey with the company.

“It’s been a fantastic experience collaborating with Lewis Silkin to create these visual contracts. The aim was to replicate the welcoming customer experience we have in our stores on every high street in the UK. The visual contracts are a fitting introduction to the excellent onboarding we aim for with all our new starters.”
