This report by Brookings explores how automation and other forms of technological change, have and will continue to transform the nature of work and the range of tasks that workers are engaged in. Given that occupational differences by gender remain a persistent feature of labour markets, it considers the interaction between automation, occupational segregation, and gender gaps in skills acquisition and job transitions and how these processes can enable more directed policy responses to alleviate the potentially distinct set of challenges that men and women are likely to face.
