This report from the House of Commons Committee provides an assessment of the current UK labour market, exploring the impact of AI, automation and an ageing population. It identifies reskilling and upskilling the workforce as a major challenge but which is necessary to meet the demands from employers for skilled workers and for workers to adapt to the increasing adoption of new technology across all sectors. Moreover, it recognises that AI and technology offer enormous potential in the workplace and that innovation must be encouraged to deliver economic growth. However, the report notes that while it welcomes the government's approach to regulating AI, public trust must be earned through transparent implementation in the workplace, ideally with worker consultation and input, and with adequate safeguards and rights of redress when it is demonstrated to impinge on workers' rights and privacy.
