This report from McKinsey reveals that generative AI's impact on productivity could add the equivalent of $2.6 trillion to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy across the 63 use cases analysed. It notes that generative AI is likely to have the biggest impact on knowledge work, particularly activities involving decision making and collaboration, which had previously had the lowest potential for automation.

The report notes that while generative AI can substantially increase labour productivity across the economy, that will require investments to support workers as they shift work activities or change jobs.
