This report by BCG and MIT Sloan Management Review finds that agentic AI is rapidly moving into the enterprise mainstream, with 35% of companies already using it and 44% planning to adopt it. It highlights how agentic AI’s dual nature – blending qualities of tool and human – mean it does not fit traditional management frameworks, creating strategic tensions between scalability and adaptability, investment versus employment, supervision versus autonomy and process retrofitting versus process reimagining. To unlock its full value, the report suggests that organisations need to fundamentally redesign workflows, governance, roles and investment approaches. Flexibility and clear value objectives will be key.
