Lewis Silkin boosts full-service IP offering with specialist tech hire

06 October 2020

Law firm appoints IP tech expert Alex Rushent as Tech Consultant

Lewis Silkin LLP today announces the hire of Alex Rushent, further bolstering the firm’s market-leading Brands and Intellectual Property practice. Alex joins Lewis Silkin as a Tech Consultant having spent more than 15 years as a trademark services leader, including almost a decade at information services company Corsearch as a Commercial Director where he managed a global IP tech team of sales, customer service and education consultants. Prior to working at Corsearch, he held roles with The Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, Edwards Wildman Palmer LPP and CPA Global.

He will advise the firm on its use of non-legal IP products and technologies to ensure continued access to the very best IP data and analytics. His expertise in IP tech and data will bolster the firm’s unique ‘IP360’ offering, which brings together a diverse suite of legal and complementary services to cover everything from IP search and due diligence to creation, protection, management and enforcement across all IP rights.

Alex will also play a crucial client-facing role, assessing the IP software needs of Lewis Silkin clients, helping them understand how their competitors use IP services and advising them on their own IP tech requirements.

The hire further enhances Lewis Silkin’s pre-eminent Intellectual Property team, which includes consultants, trade mark and patent attorneys, as well as commercial and contentious IP lawyers covering the full-spectrum of IP rights. It follows the acquisitions of patent and trade mark attorney firm Ablett & Stebbing in 2019, a market first by a law firm, and of AdSlogans, a unique slogan search and resource provider in 2018.

Dominic Farnsworth, Partner and Head of Intellectual Property at Lewis Silkin, said:

“Our clients are increasingly looking to us as a one-stop-shop for all their IP needs so we’re always looking to develop and improve our integrated IP offering. This means enhancing our non-legal services to provide our clients with the best advice relating to IP data and analytics, as this information is crucial in deciding how IP assets are managed. Alex’s hire will significantly enhance our expertise in this area at a time of rapid technological innovation with the advancement of AI, and will undoubtedly be highly valued by our clients. We look forward to welcoming him to the team.”

Alex Rushent, Tech Consultant at Lewis Silkin, added:

“Lewis Silkin was a natural choice for me. IP is not an add on, it’s at the heart of the firm and they are intent on riding the wave of new IP service development. The firm has an outstanding reputation and keeps striving to improve and offer an even wider array of services to their clients – it’s exciting to be joining this ambitious culture and such a strong IP practice.”
