I am a specialist construction lawyer, advising on the design, build and management of construction projects. I am experienced in representing all involved parties, from employers and occupiers to contractors and professional consultants.

I act on both contentious and non-contentious matters, with particular expertise of high-value projects in the corporate real estate, industrial and education sectors.

My non-contentious work comprises the drafting and analysis of construction contracts (JCT, NEC, etc), consultant appointments and associated documentation such as collateral warranties, assignments and leases.

My contentious work comprises disputes in the Technology and Construction Court (occasionally extending to other divisions and subdivisions of the higher courts) and Construction Act 1996 adjudications.

Experience

Procurement

  • Drafting and negotiating consultant appointments for a London university's new £100m+ life sciences facility and advising on the respective merits of JCT and NEC contracts for the build contract
  • Advising on the amendments required by consumer law to be able to use a JCT contract for the installation of EV charging points in residential premises
  • Negotiating an NEC contract for a £30m+ IT lab installation whilst reflecting amendments required by the "SCAPE" framework to allow the client to access government grant funding
  • Advising on HQ fit-out contracts for several corporate occupiers in locations across the UK

Facilities Management

  • Drafting a facilities management contract for a large mixed-use development at the Olympic Park in London, for the benefit of a joint venture of public sector, third sector and educational institutions

Dispute Resolution

  • Acting in a circa. £50m dispute in the Admiralty Court concerning damage to subsea electricity cables between England and France, where works were governed by an NEC contract
  • Managing the disclosure review process in a circa. £100m dispute in the Technology and Construction Court concerning defective cladding at a high-rise mixed-use development in North London
