Consumer law is changing fast, and the risks of getting it wrong are growing just as quickly. Join us for our Consumer Law Academy, which is designed to help in‑house lawyers and other legal professionals stay ahead, with practical, expert-led training that turns complex regulation into clear, actionable guidance.
Dates, times and location
The Academy runs over two half-days:
- Day 1: Monday, 26 January 2026
- Day 2: Monday, 2 February 2026
Each day runs from 12:30pm to 5:00pm at our London offices: Arbor, 255 Blackfriars Road, SE1 9AX. Lunch is included, and delegates are warmly invited to join their cohort and our team for drinks afterwards.
Who should attend?
This course is ideal for in‑house counsel and legal professionals who advise on consumer law or support consumer‑facing operations, and who want to deepen their knowledge in the areas that matter most to business protection and compliance.
Why it matters now
We are in the midst of a consumer law reset. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act significantly strengthens the UK enforcement landscape, arming the CMA with new powers, including fines of up to 10% of global turnover. Understanding where the risks lie across your online journey, marketing practices and complaint handling is now critical to avoiding costly errors and maintaining consumer trust.
What we cover
Across two half-days, our sessions will equip you to navigate key risk areas with confidence.
Day 1 focuses on the fundamentals of fair dealing and online selling, before demystifying CMA investigations. We will examine consumer rights, handling defective products and services, unfair commercial practices such as drip pricing and fake reviews, compliant online purchase journeys, returns and refunds, the new subscription rules, and what to expect if the CMA comes knocking, plus practical steps to stay on the front foot.
Day 2 turns to online choice architecture and marketing compliance. We will unpack dark patterns, urgency claims, offers and discounts, the CAP and BCAP Codes, working with influencers, promotional marketing and prize promotions, and best practice in direct marketing, distinguishing service messages from marketing, using consent and soft opt‑in appropriately, and addressing common pitfalls such as viral marketing and abandoned cart emails.
