We are delighted to announce that Brinsley Dresden, Partner and Co-Head of Advertising & Marketing Law at Lewis Silkin LLP has been elected Global President of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA). With coverage spanning more than 90 countries, GALA’s network offers truly global reach. Brinsley’s election reaffirms the commitment of GALA’s members to providing expert, practical legal counsel to advertisers and agencies worldwide amid rapid regulatory change and evolving marketing practices. His term as President will start on 1st January 2026 for a period of 3 years, succeeding the current Global President, Jeff Greenbaum, Managing Partner at Frankfurt Kurnit in New York.
Brinsley has been a recognised leader in the field of advertising and marketing law in the UK for over 20 years. He advises major global and UK brands on the full spectrum of advertising and marketing law, as well as both independent and network agencies. His practice spans compliance with self‑regulatory codes and consumer protection laws, defending investigations by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority, and advising on substantiation and comparative claims, influencer and social media marketing, prize promotions and green claims. He is widely recognised by leading directories for his commercial judgment and his ability to navigate complex, multi‑jurisdictional campaigns efficiently and effectively, as well as for his writing on the Lewis Silkin Adlaw blog, and his public speaking, including his annual fireside chat with the chief executive of the ASA.
Brinsley Dresden commented on the appointment saying:
“I am honoured to have been elected to serve as GALA’s Global President, taking over from Jeff Greenbaum, who has led GALA with such distinction. Advertising and marketing are global in ambition, but local in execution. GALA’s network brings together deeply experienced lawyers who understand both the regulatory frameworks and the practical realities of launching campaigns in markets across the world. I look forward to further strengthening our collaboration, deepening our thought leadership, and helping members and their clients stay ahead of emerging issues, from sustainability claims and influencer marketing to AI‑enabled advertising and data‑driven personalisation.”
Brinsley has been a member of GALA’s global leadership since its foundation in 1998, contributing to thought leadership, harmonisation of cross‑border guidance, and client education initiatives. In his new role, he will guide GALA’s strategic priorities, expand member engagement and training, and spearhead flagship publications and events that help marketers assess risk and seize opportunity across jurisdictions.
As part of GALA’s global programme of thought leadership, in Spring 2026 the organisation will host a major conference in London in connection with GALA’s global meeting, bringing together senior marketers and legal experts to discuss emerging issues and best practice. GALA will also convene programming in Cannes alongside the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
GALA Global President Jeffrey A. Greenbaum said:
“I am absolutely thrilled with Brinsley’s election as GALA’s new Chairman. As the long-time member from the United Kingdom, Brinsley and his firm have been extraordinary contributors to GALA. Brinsley is a great lawyer, colleague, and friend, and there is no one better suited to take on this role. Under Brinsley’s leadership, great things are in store for GALA.”
