This is a hybrid event, taking place at our offices followed by drinks and networking.

This session will explore the fundamental changes to consumer law proposed in the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill, including the breakthrough proposals:

  • Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) may be able to directly to impose huge fines for breaches of consumer law, of up to 10% of global turnover
  • Important new rules around subscriptions
  • Tightening of the general prohibitions on unfair commercial practices, in particular contravention of the requirements of professional diligence

Lewis Silkin’s Geraint Lloyd-Taylor, Alex Meloy and Fleur Chenevix-Trench will be joined by guest speaker Anna Medvinskaia from Gough Square Chambers.

These proposals significantly change the risk landscape for all companies involved in B2C interactions, and up the ante when it comes to getting it wrong. It is an area where more companies will focus their energy and resources over the coming years.
