International Overview

In a rapidly globalising world we work frequently with clients on their international legal requirements. We believe that the most effective international service to clients is provided through our working closely with other specialist firms around the world.

We ensure that the right firm in each jurisdiction is picked for each project and that service to clients is project managed by us to give a single point of contact for instructions, reporting and budget oversight. In order to deliver that model for each client we invest substantial resources each year in developing our knowledge of and relationships with specialist firms around the world.

As part of that investment in international client service we are members of two ‘best of breed’ alliances that give us access to leading specialist practices across the globe: Ius Laboris which is the global alliance of employment law specialist firms and The Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA) which covers a wide range of legal services for clients across the marketing and communications industries. We play an active role in the management, development and promotion of each of our Alliances.

We also operate a number of country desks in order to co-ordinate our activities relating to key jurisdictions.  As one of the most active examples, our French Desk provides a dedicated service to French companies wishing to develop their business in the UK. Through its network of corporate finance advisers and law firm contacts, the French Desk can also assist our UK and international clients wishing to develop their business in France.

We established our first international office in Hong Kong, offering our clients a single point for employment and global mobility advice across Asia Pacific.

The most recent addition to our international service capability is our Irish office in Dublin, which has been driven by evolving client needs and in order to ensure we can continue to provide market leading assistance to our clients post Brexit.

Coordinating advice

We often find that clients like us to take on a central coordination role when we work on cross border projects – we can act as your single point of entry to specialists in each of these alliances. For example, we manage the advice and input from alliance members and can present you with one bill covering the input from all practices. Alternatively you may prefer to have a relationship with each individual firm.

Although we work very closely with both our alliances, we are not tied into using them. So when the need arises we select the best alternative adviser from the extensive range of law firms with whom we enjoy close working relationships. So unlike law firms who are tied into using their own network of offices, we can pick our team to suit each particular assignment and work with the firm that we think is best placed to provide our global clients with the support they need locally.
