I am a dual qualified Trade Mark Attorney and Patent Attorney, practising before the EU and UK Intellectual Property Offices and the European Patent Office. I deal with most subject matters within the Mechanical, Electronics, Telecommunications, and Software technology areas.
I have an Honours degree in Physics from Birmingham University. After conducting research as a postgraduate, I moved into the steel industry to work on various research and development projects relating to improved production and automation techniques. After qualifying as a Patent Attorney in 1984, I founded the firm of Ablett & Stebbing in 1993 with Peter Stebbing before joining Lewis Silkin in 2019.
My early career tended to focus on consumer appliances before I became involved with a large portfolio of camera patents and related products which include lens components. This technology gradually evolved to include more sophisticated electronics and software technology as well as moving into the medical device field. More recently, my clients are concerned with component testing, particularly in the automobile industry, and with telecommunications and software technologies.
