Arbor artwork – Folio

Michael Craig-Martin helped pioneer British Conceptual art in the late 20th Century. His early work was influenced by the Minimalist and Dada movements.

Born in Ireland before moving to America to study, the artist’s work can be defined by his use of ordinary household objects to create quirky compositions, often with many objects all overlapping one another. When selecting his objects, the artist picks ones he thinks of as iconic: instantly recognisable and often symbolic of different genres or different aspects of people's lives.

His work can be found in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, France; the British Arts Council, UK; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Tate Gallery, London and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Editions of this work can be found in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
